Finding Clarity in the Desert: A Women’s Retreat at Miraval with Carrie Rule

Earlier this spring, I had the opportunity to step away from the constant motion of life and into the stillness of the Sonoran Desert for a Women’s Retreat at Miraval, Arizona. I joined seven women I had never met before, and over the course of just a few days, we created a space filled with honesty, curiosity, and connection.

The retreat was hosted by Carrie Rule, an experienced speaker and leadership coach who helps businesses, teams, and individuals cultivate success through the lens of Emotional Intelligence. Our goal was clear: to disconnect, discover, set intention, and seek clarity. And we did just that.

Carrie’s approach is grounded and relatable. She utilizes innovative exercises and techniques rooted in Emotional Intelligence to guide individuals and teams in key areas like Time Management, Communication and Conflict, Change Management, and Building Internal and External Networks. Her ability to read the energy of a room and guide thoughtful dialogue made this retreat not just meaningful—but transformative.

As a photographer, I had the unique opportunity to capture Carrie in two different elements during our time at Miraval: first, in a dressier, polished outfit perfect for her speaking engagements and professional presence; and second, in cozy, relaxed pieces that truly matched the peaceful, intentional energy she brings to her retreats. These two sides of her brand—professional and peaceful—are what make her work so impactful and her presence so authentic.

Carrie isn’t just teaching Emotional Intelligence—she’s embodying it.

As I reflect on my own experience at the retreat, I realize how essential it is to create space for clarity. Whether you’re a leader, a team member, or simply someone navigating change, there’s something powerful about stepping away from the noise and tuning in to what really matters.
